Guest post on DBag Dating
I don’t think it will be a huge surprise if I tell you that when I meet my girlfriends for drinks, a significant amount of time is spent in debriefing them on my dating disasters. Some months ago I was bringing a new friend up-to-speed on the high(low)-lights of my Parisian dating history.
“Do you know what,” she said, “you need to read my friend’s blog Douche Bag Dating.”
It turns out this particular friend of my friend used to live in Paris, where she studied fashion, and blogged about her own Parisian dating misfortune. She now lives in New York (where she writes for US Vogue, among other publications — no biggie!) and continues to blog about dating disasters from across the Atlantic.
“You should totally pitch some of these stories to her,” my friend said, “I’m pretty sure she would publish them.”
In a rare moment of internet-connectivity in the metro on the way home, I tracked down this blog to see what it was all about. Let’s just say it was a total coup de coeur and that I was an instant fan of Marina and her hilarious stories. I added DB Dating to my RSS feed and read every new post with more and more delight.
I followed the blog for months without having the courage to pitch a story. Then one morning, the idea came to me — I knew exactly what I was going to pitch to her! I drafted the pitch that same day on the way to work, and waited with bated breath for a response.
I was at the Gare du Nord on my way home when I refreshed my email for about the thousandth time that day. When I read the email that Marina loved the idea I actually whooped audibly in the middle of the station (it’s OK, the Gare du Nord is full of crazy people, so I fit right in!).
This week the post went up on DBag Dating (more audible whooping ensued). Before sharing the link with you, permit me a small preface: this is a piece about the perils of summer dating in Paris, so it is not for the faint of heart. But Carrie Bradshaw didn’t hold back, did she?
